David Stine was the son of Christophel and Eva Stroh Stein. David's baptism, 30 Sep 1816, is recorded in the Bethel Moravian Church records (church records, Lebanon County Historial Society) and also the Old Swatara Church records, Jonestown (Lebanon County Cemetery - Mormon History Center).

David first married Sarah Flick. The US Census of 1850 indicates that David and Sarah lived in Pine Grove Township, Schuylkill County, where David was a carpenter. By 1860 the family lived in Union Forge (now Lickdale), Union Township, Lebanon County where David was a carpenter and sons Ephraim and Anson were Boatmen, presumably on the Union Canal. Together David and Sarah Flick Stine had ten known children: Mary, Ephaim, Jane, John, Anson, Caroline, Emma, Amanda, Reuben, and William Henry. Sarah Flick Stine died in 1861. She is buried in Walmer's Church cemetery (near Indiantown Gap.

Shortly thereafter David married Sarah Lentz (who already had several children). Together they had six additional children: Ellen, Catharine (Kate), Heister, Seleca, Maria, and Samuel.

David is buried in Union Salem Evangelical Congregational Church Cemetery, Lickdale.
