David first married Sarah Flick. The US Census of 1850 indicates that David and Sarah lived in Pine Grove Township, Schuylkill County, where David was a carpenter. By 1860 the family lived in Union Forge (now Lickdale), Union Township, Lebanon County where David was a carpenter and sons Ephraim and Anson were Boatmen, presumably on the Union Canal. Together David and Sarah Flick Stine had ten known children: Mary, Ephaim, Jane, John, Anson, Caroline, Emma, Amanda, Reuben, and William Henry. Sarah Flick Stine died in 1861. She is buried in Walmer's Church cemetery (near Indiantown Gap.
