Obituary

Mrs. W.C. Baker, of the oldest settlers near Pauline died Wednesday (13 Jun) 1906) after an illness lasting six weeks. She had been a resident of that section for 35 years. The remains were interred in Oak Creek cemetery.

On the 18th of this month departed from our midst the affectionate mother, Mrs. Mary J. Baker. Mary J. Robinson was born in Ohio, September 13th,1839, was 66 years and 9 months at time of death. In November 1862 she was married to William C. Baker. Eight children, three boys and five girls were born to them. One daughter died in 1864. The remaining seven are left behind with their aged father to mourn her death. The family moved to Nemaha county, Nebraska in 1868 and from there to Adams county in 1872. The veuerable couple have been married 43 years and 7 months. Mrs. Baker was fond of home and devoted her life to the welfare of her family. As a neighbor she was kind and obliging. Hers was a life of faithful services. After toll come rest. She was buried June 15th. at Oak Creek cemetery Rev. E.N. Tompkins conducting the services and delivering a very eloquent and impressive sermon. The floral offerings from neighbors and friends covered the beautiful casket in which the remains were placed, showing the loving kindness felt toward the departed one. All her children except the youngest, who is at home with his father. Mr. Baker is now seventy-one years of age. We hope his children will be a source of great comfort to him in his declining years and that the sunset scenes will be bright and pleasant. A Friend
