Gusvin Schlather, 86, Newcastle, Oklahoma, died Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Grace Living Cemetery in Norman, Oklahoma.

Graveside funeral services were July 28, 2009 at the Eden Cemetery in Eden, Texas. Local arrangements made by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Newcastle.

Gusvin was born Aug. 1, 1922, in Hancock, Texas. He was the fourth of five children born to Edgar Schlather and Etta Pape Schlather. Gusvin grew up a farm boy in Eola, Texas and continued farming with his father throughout his life. After retiring from farming he moved to Newcastle in 1994, to live close to his nephew. Gusvin had been a member of the Lutheran Church most of his life. While living in Newcastle he attended the Church of Christ and the Newcastle Seniors Citizens Center. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting turkey in his younger years. In his later years he enjoyed playing dominoes.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and Herman Schlather; two sisters, Ophelia McHorse and Cora McIntre. He is survived by two nephews and a niece: Dean McHorse and wife Freedia of Newcastle, Charles Schlather and wife Carol of San Angelo, Texas and Roberta Buckley of Wyoming. Also several great nieces and nephews.
