Minnie Dora Howard was born in Chickasaw Nation Indian Territory in 1888, before Oklahoma became a State. Her mother died when she was a young child and she was raised by her older sisters. Her father owned a "hotel" which was probably a boarding house. Minnie told. at the age of four she would dance on the counter for "jobbers" (salesmen)who would give her pennies! She also mentioned many times of riding in the buggy with her father as he went into the countryside to care for patients. The older sister even helped mix some of the medicines that the father used in his practice of medicine. Doc Howard was one of several physicians in the community, so evidently there was a lot of sickness, or a lot of people. Minnie says when she was young the area had 5 hotels, several stores, two cotton gins and other businesses that provided for the several thousand population. By 2000, the town had shrunken to less than 500.

Minnie and Jodie were married one day before her 21st birthday. Six children were born to the couple; four lived to majority.

After Jodie died, Minnie lived alone, tending her garden and flowers until she was 90 years of age. She spent her last 12 years with her daughters in Texas. Minnie lived to be 102 years of age. She died in Texas, but Oklahoma was in her heart.
