She was the daughter of James Denny Sr. and Mary Agnes Aldren. Nancy's maiden name is not Tallon as many suspect. The error comes from her husband's will where he wrote "Agnes I allow" and it was thought to say "Agnes Tallon"). Nancy Denny married William James Donnell on 26 July 1775 in Guilford County, North Carolina.

Inscription
According to Robert Donnell's book, Buffalo Presbyterian Church and Cemetery, Greensboro, North Carolina @ 1994, Nancy had a grave marker that read: Nancy Donnell, Wife of William Donnell. Died March 18, 1839 aged 82 years. But upon a visit to the cemetery in November 2012, her marker was not located in plot 5E-6E North Wall. (Diane Gravlee)
