Mrs. Bertha Forrest Ashberry, 74, of Blakes, died Saturday, January 24, 1970 in Riverside Hospital (Newport News, Va.) after a short illness.
She was the widow of Clifford E. Ashberry, Sr. and was a member of Mathews Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Howard Horsley of Blakes, (two sons, Clifford of Blakes) and Forrest Ashberry of Norfolk; five sisters, Mrs. Lola Cannon of Hallieford, Mrs. Victor Burton and Mrs. Ruth Santoria, both of Norfolk, Mrs. Clemmie Lewis of Hudgins, and Mrs. Ida Hudgins of New Point; three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, conducted by the Rev. T. Winston Parker, pator of Mathews Baptist Church. Burial was in Heitage Memorial Park at Dutton.
Pallbearers were James Owens, Hoover Cannon, Frank Lewis, Jr., Bennie Minor, Edward Elliot and Robert VanSise.
