Military Rites Conducted For Leslie T. Banks

Chester (SC) Feb. 13 (1949?)-Special-Full military funeral services were conducted from Evergreen cemetery this afternoon for Leslie T. Banks, 25, of the U.S. Marine Corps, son of Mrs. Belle Grant Banks, formerly of Chester and the late Samuel Douglas Banks, of Rion, who was killed in action at Ryukus on Okinawa, June 10, 1945. The services were in charge of the James Hemphill American Legion Post, No. 27, with Dr. Fritz C. Beach, pastor of Bethel Methodist Church officiating. The firing squad and the bugler were members of Chester company, National Guard. All flags in the city were flown today at half mast in young Banks' honor. He was in service for six years and was in many of the major battles of the Pacific war theater. He is survived by his widow, now Mrs. Lester Ipack, and daughter Linda, of Kinston, N.C. , his mother, Mrs. S. D. Banks of Rion, the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Osborne Orangeburg, Mrs. S. L. Columbia, Mrs. W. E. Albany, Ga., S. D. Jr., Columbia, and Larry of Rion. Also five nieces and two nephews. (Newspaper obituary, unknown publication, unknown date, "1949" written on the obituary.
