Sophia was the only daughter of Seth and Sarah (Allen) St John and was born near East Hubbardton, Vermont in 1837. Her parents had established a farm in the area in the 1790s and she lived her short life there. Also born into the family were her older brother Samuel Wheeler and after Sophia died, Allen and Guy were born. It is not known what caused Sophia's death, but she passed away after living for only five years on April 5, 1842. She is interred next to her parents in the East Hubbardton Cemetery.
