Sandra "Sue" Harp Williams, 60, longtime Oak Harbor resident passed away May 31, 2008, at her home, surrounded by those she loved the most, her friends and family.
Sue was born April 23, 1948, to Hubert and Faye Harp in Hanford, Calif. She was preceded in death by both parents, step-father Chet Craig, a brother Donald,
a sister Mildred, and her oldest son, Ernie.
Sue is survived by her husband Kim, sons Eric and Jeff and daughter Kimmy.
She is also survived by sisters Maurice Pineda of Hanford, Mary Larson of Visalia, Calif., and brothers Davis and Danny Harp, also of Visalia; and grandchildren Tia, Preston, Benjamin, Colt, Chance, Bailey, Taneil, Calob and Lee.
Although Sue was the youngest of seven children and cousin, auntie and grandma to countless dozens, it is her extended family that dwarfs her immediate family. Sue was a Navy wife. She took that title seriously. She followed husband Kim all over the continental United States. When Kim was on a ship in some faraway country or ocean, Sue maintained the home front.
She was an active member of the Navy Wife's Club and provided a helping hand or shoulder for many Navy wives, in the same boat. Sue and Kim have called Oak Harbor home for many years. Throughout those
years many young sailors sought her out and called her Mom. Sue very often provided food, shelter and a safe haven. It was not uncommon for a half dozen sailors from NAS Whidbey Island to show up at Sue's for a warm meal and a round of gin rummy out on the deck. They had a home away from home with Sue.
Sue's family can be traced from NAS Lemoore to Memphis, Tenn., and finally to NAS Whidbey Island. Within her Navy family, there are literally hundreds of young men who remember Sue.
Those of us who called her Mom, Grandma and sister remember her as the busy one. Sue didn't know how to sit still. Sue had a heart as big as all outdoors, and never failed to end the conversation with, "I love you." It is that good heart and love she shared that we will all miss
