The night was made comfortable by a small stove they had, and they also had light, he said. He was reported missing in action on December 20, 1944 in Luxembourg during the Battle of the Bulge. A later message confirmed that he had been killed in action on that date.
He married Mary Frances Knox on 16 Aug 1942 in Georgia and they had a son Marion. After her death , in 1943, he married Dorothy Greckle in New Jersey and they had a son Glenard who died shortly after birth while Marion was in England.
