Son of Noah Everett and Dertha Ann (Todd) Blackwell. He attended public school in Heltonville.

He enlisted in the Army in June 1940. He received training in camps of North and South Carolina, Georgia and New Jersey, before sailing for overseas service in January 1944. He was serving as a member of Company G, 12th U.S. Infantry Regiment, U.S. 4th Infantry Division.

His last letter, written around December 19, was written from a foxhole on the battle front, said he was in the company of an American-Japanese soldier. The night was made comfortable by a small stove they had, and they also had light, he said. He was reported missing in action on December 20, 1944 in Luxembourg during the Battle of the Bulge. A later message confirmed that he had been killed in action on that date.

He married Mary Frances Knox on 16 Aug 1942 in Georgia and they had a son Marion. After her death , in 1943, he married Dorothy Greckle in New Jersey and they had a son Glenard who died shortly after birth while Marion was in England.
