Following is from the Southampton Press, August 19, 2009.

Longtime Southampton Resident Alice Blydenburgh died on August 13 at the Hospice Care Center in Brooksville, Florida. She was 97.

Born in Hydeville, Vermont, on June 12, 1912, to Harry and Lucy Loomis, she moved to Southampton in 1930 to attend the Southampton Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1933. She was an active member of it's alumnae association, holding various offices. In 1982, she received the Ellen Jacobson 50-year pin in recognition of excellence in nursing.

Mrs Blydenburgh was a private duty nurse at Southampton Hospital until the early '60s, when she became the evening supervisor of the nursing staff. She was a Red Cross nurse as well.

A lifetime member of the Veterans of Foriegn Wars, she did volunteer service at the Northport Veterans Home. She was also a member of Ashawagh Chapter 606 Order of the Eastern Star and the Southampton Methodist Church. A world traveler, she loved to bowl, golf and tend to her gardens.

She is survived by two daughters, Beverly Grant of Connecticut and Nancy and her husband Stanley Sendlenski of Florida; a son-in-law, Ted Graygor of New Jersey; two grandsons, Robert Grant Jr. and his wife Kelly of Connecticut and Stanley Sendlenski III and his wife Michelle of Texas; three grandaughters, Deborah Graygor Barbato and her husband Gerald of New Jersey, Jeanne Grant and her husband David Seney of Connecticut, and Sheryl Sendlenski and her husband Stephen Dalpe of Texas; and 11 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her two sisters, three brothers, a daughter, Slyvia Graygor, a grandson, Teddy Graygor Jr., and a son-in-law, Robert Grant Sr.

The family received visitors on August 16 at the O'Connell Funeral Home in Southampton. Funeral Services were held August 17 at the United Methodist Church in Southampton, followed by internment at Southampton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hernando Pasco Hospice, 12242 Cortez Boulevard, Brookville, Florida, 34613 would be appreciated by the family.
