She married John Baptiste Augustine Monroe McDowell on 05 Apr 1865 in Edwardsville, Madison Co., Illinois. They lived in Missouri where their three children, Lela, Mary and Lloyd, were born. The family was living in Whitman, Washington in 1887 and later moved to Seattle. John had a store and Martha had a milliner shop. She was a member of the Temperance Union.
