A Pleasant Surprise
Sister Fannie Gorringe, president of the Relief Society was given a surprise party on her sixty-fifth birthday, Jan. 27th.
The committee were members of the Relief Society. So nicely had they carried out their plans that Sister Gorringe was in perfect surprise until six o'clock in the evening when Sister A. J. Grant drove to her residence and told her that the Relief Society had assembled in the hall to have a little entertainment and would be pleased to have her present. Sister Gorringe immediately got ready and was escorted to the hall which she found well filled with friends and fellow laborers. Appropriate remarks were made by Sister Hattie Whitby who presided over the exercises.
A tribute by Minnie T. Pickett was read. Congratulations and words of love and respect were tendered Sister Gorringe by Bishop A. G. Smith, Stake President H. O. Haight and counselors Moroni Pickett and Wm. F. Brim, also Bros. Cyrus Tolman and John Alexander. The song, "Plesant words are full of sweetness" was sung by Sister Emerett Tolman. A beautiful sentiment by our worthy Sister Louisa Reed was read by Bro. M. Pickett, our dear sister was unable to attend.
The curtains were then drawn back, which had hid from our view the tables loaded with a bounteous supply of good things. People said if we could judge from the appearance of the tables hard times had not yet visited Marion.
As there was not room for all to eat at the first table old and middle age were given the preference. After supper was over, dancing was participated in and the remainder of the program was rendered.
Sister Gorringe thanked the people for the congratulations that had been bestowed upon her: said she appreciated them and they would long be cherished as mementoes of love.
M. T. Pickett.

1908 Utah Mrs Fannie Gorringe passes away
Mrs. Emily Kynaston of Bountiful received a telegram Monday evening announcing that her mother, Mrs. Fannie Gorringe had passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Alvin Tolman at Marion, Idaho.
Relatives from Salt Lake left Tuesday evening to go to Marion to attend the funeral.
There was no details with the message, but it is no doubt old age that is the cause of her demise as she is about eighty years old.
She and her late husband were early settlers in Bountiful where they lived upwards of forty years. After her husband died, she lived with her children in Salt Lake and Idaho.
