His Death Resulted After Long Suffering With Cancer.
Cancer was the cause of the death of the late Serenus Haag, who passed away at Sacred Heart hospital Friday morning at 1 o'clock. Mr. Haag had been afflicted with the disease a long time and had been in a serious condition since last June. An operation gave very slight relief.
Mr. Haag was born in Burke county, Pennsylvania. When he was small his parents came to this section and Serenus made his home most of his life at Cedar in Butler township.
He worked at the carpenter trade until ill health compelled him to quit. He was aged fifty-four years, five months and four days.
Mr. Haag is survived by his wife, from whom he had separated; one son Lloyd, of Auburn and six brothers and two sisters: Irvin, Darius F., Maurice and Miss Ezina Haag, on the Haag homestead south of Garrett, Oliver Haag in Jackson township, Ezra Haag at Butler Center, and Oran Haag and Mrs. W. W. McClure of Garrett. Two children of Mr. Haag are dead.
He was a member of the Knights of Pythias lodge at Auburn for twenty -five years.
The body was taken Friday to the Haag homestead. Funeral services were held Sunday at Cedar chapel. the Rev. D. E. Hoover officiating, and interment was made in Cedar chapel cemetery. The pallbearers were David Heitz, Heber Petit, G. W. Burtzner, Frank Groves, Charles Baber and Elza Housel.
