He was a member of Company G, 320th Infantry Regiment, landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy France July 7, 1944, and was wounded August 10, 1944 by shell fragments in the vicinity of Mortain, France. He returned to duty October 4, 1944 when the unit was in the vicinity of Chambrey, France. He was awarded the Expert Infantryman Badge July 31 and the Combat Infantryman Badge August 29, 1944. Pfc Beecher C Milligan was reported missing November 9, 1944 in the vicinity of Chateau-Salins, France and was later confirmed killed in action on that date.

Private First Class Beecher C Milligan, 34527004, Infantry, United States Army, for heroic service in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States in the vicinity of * * * , France, 9 August 1944. Private Milligan, a rifle squad scout, crawled over a hedgerow and across open ground to the side of a wounded member of another company and, while exposed to intense enemy fire, administered first aid to this soldier and dragged him across a field to safety. This action, performed voluntarily in the face of enemy artillery, machine gun and aimed small arms fire, reflects credit upon Private Milligan's character as a soldier and upon the military service. Entered military service from Tennessee.
