Mr. Kent was one of the early settlers of the county, was a man of kindly spirit, gentle manners and real worth, and was highly esteemed by his pioneer associates, and by those of later years who had opportunity to know him well.
He served with the IL Vol 76 Reg 17 Army Corp during the Civil War and received a gunshot wound to an arm.

Mr. Charles Kent died at the home of his son-in-law, H.C. Springer, at McCallsburg, Friday April 24, 1903, aged 86 years.
