Anthony "Tony" Iacono, 88, died June 22, 2007, at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media.
Born, raised, and educated in Ischia, Italy, before coming to the United States in 1937.
Anthony was the son of the late Onofrio and Marianna Iacono.
Upon his arrival, he settled in Chester and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater Operations and Okinawa. He was empolyed for 17 years in the Turbine Division of Westinghouse Inc.
In 1954, Anthony opened his first restaurant, Vesuvio's Pizzeria in Chester, which he owned and operated for 17 years before opening Antonio's Italian Restaurant (Four Winds) in 1971 with his wife Rosemarie.
He was a member of St. Cornelius Church in Chadds Ford. Anthony loved his wife's cooking, homemade wine and mostly his loving granddaughter Christina. In addition to his wife of 58 years, Rosemarie April Iacono, he is survived by his son, Anthony Iacono Jr. and his wife Cynthia of West Chester; and by his granddaughter, Christina Iacono.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Christopher Iacono; and sisters, Teresa Iacono and Angeline DiMaio.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 27 at 10 a.m. at St. Cornelius Church with burial at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Marple Twp. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. at the Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home 5980 Chichester Avenue, Aston.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, One Plymouth Meeting, Suite 520, Plymouth Meeting, Pa. 19462-1316.
