He was excluded from his fathers will.Or sharing his lands apparently because he was already established on his own lands, although some said it was because he didn't stay home and help him farm as the other two boys did. Alexander and Jordan were to divide the land equally, but each were required to pay Johnson two hundred dollars. He said his wife should be provided for after his death if she should live so long - but she didn't, dying six years later and twelve years before Joseph's death. After Mary died he revised his will so that Alexander and Jordan were each to pay Johnson two hundred forty dollars. Jordan and his son George saved the receipt he received from the administrator of Johnson's estate for the payment of the two hundred forty dollars and interest.
