Born the third of eight known children to Charles Whitlock and Esther last name not known. About 1786 in Stokes County, North Carolina he marries Roseanna Shelton. They came to Morgan County, Illinois in 1829 the year before the BIG SNOW of 1830. This marriage would produce least eleven children of which one may or maynot be theirs, Betsy who married Joshua Mitchell; Rachel (which may or maynot been theirs) married William Folden; Charles married Margaret "Pasty" Wilson; Ira married Teresa French; John who married Mary "PollY" Sheppard/Shepherd; William who marries two times Ali B. Shepphard/Shepherd & Rebecca G. Neece nee Allen; Luther who married five times of which three were sisters, marries Margaret Dunbar, Sallie Mansfield, Sarah Mansfield, Ann Shipley & Martha J. Mansfield; Thomas who married two times Nancy Story & Temperance Massey; John James married Abigail Hartley; Sally; and Sarah who married John Bracewell.
