Pioneers of South East Miller Township
Benjamin Wheeler and wife, Sophia, entered their land, 1851. Ben Wheeler was a Baptist minister and preached at many churches throughout his territory while taking care of the spiritual need of the community.
Ben Wheeler farm is located 4 mi. N.E. and beginning ½ mi. north of Berlin. Aunt Sophia, as she was known, looked after the home and farm. She has a small bottom field of eight acres of fertile soil she said was a life saver to them and this piece of land is still known as Aunt Sophia’s bottom.
