GENTRY KILLED AT HOME HERE; SHUMAKER HELD.
James Shumaker of West Anniston was bound over without bond to await action of the Calhoun County Grand Jury when he was arraigned in Police Court today on murder charges growing out of the fatal stabbingof his father-in-law, Sam Gentry, late Friday afternoon. The stabbing accourd at the home of Mrs. Dna Champion on Furnace Hill, and was said to have grown out of domestic difficulty. Both police and sheriff P.W. Cotton's force joined in the investigation and affidavitts were being taken by the sheriff'd departmenat from several witnesses. Gentry was stabbed in the back and in the chest. He was pronouced dead on arrival at the Garner Hospital. The stabbing occoured about 4 o'clock and Shumaker was not arrested until 9:30 0'clock, having left the scene after the fight. He was apprehended at the house of a friend. Mrs. Edna Champion of 35 Furnace Hill, present during the difficulty, received a gash on her her left arm. SHe was treated at the hospital and dissmissed. Authorities at Police Headquartes stated that Shumaker was under the influence of whisky at the time of the arrest. Cheif Turner said it was information of officers that Shumaker was drinking at the time of the stabbing. Sheriff Cotton said that Shumaker had been arrested in a stabbing case several months ago, charged with stabbing a man named Frank Lindsey. Funeral Serviced for Mr. Gentry, who was 45 years of age, will be conducted from the residence at 1005 McDaniel Avenue at 2 o'clock Subday afternoon by the Rev. L.N. Claxton. Interment will be directed by Ursery in Pine Grove Cemetery. Survivng Mr. Gentry are his wife, three sons, Willard, Dave, and Sam Jr.,and four daughters, Joyce and Betty Lou Gentry, Mrs. Rosa Lee Stacks and Mrs. Sudie Shumaker.
