Martine was humbled when her biography was featured in the 2005 St. Agatha Historical Society annual calendar. More humbling was when the Portland Press Herald interviewed and did a column on Martine's recipe for making "Le boudin." In her moments of leisure, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, traveling and playing cards with family and dear friends. Martine could be best described as a prayerful, gentle, kind and gracious woman with an eye for fashion and beauty.
Martine is survived by her children, Gerald of Birch Point, St. David, Marylin Shields of Connecticut, Linda of Frenchville and Dennis of Saco; daughter-in-law, Ann Ouellette-Hassel of Texas; three grandchildren, James of Germany, Chad and Brad of St. Agatha.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Denis; sons, Donald and Harold; son-in-law, Donald Shields; brothers, Reid and Roland; and sisters, Nettie Morin, Weeda Chamberland, Theresa Levasseur and Cecile Hebert.
Relatives and friends will be received 8:30 a.m. prior to the Mass of Christian burial that will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at Our Lady of the Valley - St. Luce Roman Catholic Church, Frenchville. Burial will be afterward in St. Luce Cemetery. (Bangor Daily News 10/27/2009)
