Daughter of Silas Lewis (1774-1849) and Mary Savage (1779-1860)
On March 13th, 1848 at the age of 28 she married Samuel Porter a widower, he was a farmer in Shefford Township and had six sons under the age of 16 to take of: William Henry 1832, George 1833, Richard 1840, Joseph 1843, Frederick 1845 and Thomas 1847. Over the next few years, they added four more children to the family, Samuel 1849, George Archibald 1851, Harriet 1854, and Louisa in 1856.
They had been married 19 years when Samuel died in April 25 of 1867.
Her son Samuel married Abigail Knowlton in October of 1873, Abigail was the daughter of Amasa Knowlton and Harriet Lewis. Harriet was Laura's older sister.
Harriet passed away in 1875 and two years later Amasa and Laura were married on March 19th 1877 and they settled in Waterloo.
They had only spent 8 years together when Amasa died in January of 1885.
Laura lived with Samuel and Abigail for some time and then rented a room in the village from Mrs Harriet Harris until her death on February 11th 1893 at the age of 73.
