Marie Agnes, the second daughter and third child of Guiseppe and Maria Torno, was born on January 20, 1937, in St. Louis, Mo. Marie began her studies to become a teacher and a School Sister of Notre Dame in St. Louis in 1954. She pronounced her vows as a member of the congregation in August 1956. Sister earned her B.A. degree from Notre Dame College with graduate studies at University of North Carolina and the University of Dallas.
During her early teaching years she was known as Sister Marie Theodore returning, to her Baptismal name, Marie, in the 80's. For most of her half-century as an educator, Sister Marie taught in Texas. Her gift for teaching small children and working with their families found her in our schools in Tyler, San Antonio and Dallas. Louisiana pre-school and primary grade children in Bogalusa and Madonna Marrero also benefitted from her creative approach to teaching.
Sister Marie came to St. Mary of the Pines in 2001. Here she made available tools and materials as she coordinated the skills of the Sisters while they produced handwork for others to enjoy. Marie's parents and her sister preceded her in death. She is survived by her brother and very devoted nieces and nephews.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord!
