Mr. Rice was employed by city Chevrolet until his retirement.
He was a devoted member of Shiloh Institutional Baptist Church. Richard loved his church and worked diligently as a member. He served as President of the usher Board for thirty-four years. His life strength and faith will serve as a lighthouse for all who knew him.
After a short illness Richard departed this life at Charlotte Memorial Hospital on December 7, 1980.
Richard leaves mourn his going home to a more fruitful garden: his wife, Jessie Rice; one daughter Mrs. Leslie Murphy; one son Richard Rice Jr., both of Charlotte, North Carolina; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah G. English of Washington, DC; and Mrs. Hattie M. Leonard of Charlotte, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Patricia and Roberta Rice, both of Charlotte, North Carolina; two great-grandchildren Neressia Cha'nelle and Courtney Dion Rice both of Charlotte, North Carolina; three nieces, Mrs. Geraldine Chavis of Englewood, NJ; Ms. Beulah Dunlap of New York City; and Mrs. Harriet G. Steele of Charlotte; one nephew, Mr. Fred D. Glenn of Bridgeport Conn.
