Son of Alexander Alan Arthur and Catherine Allan, baptized on the 11th day of May, 1856 at the Congregational Zion Church in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the husband of Ethelwyn Ruby Frazer, the daughter of William Lewis Fraser and Sarah Hannah Adams, whom he married on March 25, 1896 in Manhattan, NY, and father of Sarah Beatrice Arthur (married Augustus Westlake Filmer, from whom she was later divorced, married Jack Tucker) .

In 1881, Allan Arthur, aged 25, was living in the St. Antoine Ward, Montreal, Canada, in the home of Clinton DeWitt, aged 45, and his family. He was shown to be a bookkeeper. Also living in the household was Catherine Arthur, aged 18.

He arrived in the United States on August 3rd, 1884 at Boston, Massachusetts at the age of 40, and petitioned for citizenship on December 1st, 1887.

Marriage - On March, 25, 1896 in Manhattan, NY, Alan Arthur, aged 40, single, born 1856 in Montreal, Canada, the son of Alexander Arthur and Katherine Allan, married Eheluyn (Ethelwyn) Ruby Fraser, aged 26, single, born 1870 in Montreal, Canada, the daughter of William Lewis Fraser and Sarah Hannah Adams.

In 1910, his widow, E. Ruby Arthur, aged 40, was living at 48 West 38th Street, Bayonne, New Jersey, with her daughter, Beatrice S. Arthur, aged 13, her widowed mother, Sarah H. Fraser, aged 70, and boarder, Chauncey Armstrong, aged 25.

After his death, his widow, Ethelwyn R. F. Arthur, remarried, to Paul M. Filmer on May 24, 1913 in Manhattan, NY.
