Edwin H. "Ted" Brenke, age 95, of Le Sueur died on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at the River's Edge Hospital in St. Peter, Minnesota with his family at his bedside.He was born on April 21, 1914 in Kelso Township, Sibley County to Joseph and Dora (Latzke) Brenke. He attended country school. He worked for various farmers and entered the U.S. Army in January of 1942 and served until August of 1945, serving overseas and was awarded a Bronze Star. He returned to Minnesota and married Mary Rademacher on January 11, 1947, at the St. Paul's Church of Christ parsonage in Henderson. They farmed in Henderson Township, Sibley County, for 15 years and moved to Le Sueur in 1963. He worked for the Le Sueur Foundry, retiring in 1979. Ted did lawn care for many residents of Le Sueur in his retirement years.He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Henderson and of the Le Sueur Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards and time spent with family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren.He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Lucy (Richard) Tupy of Le Sueur; son, Ivan (Merylee) Brenke of Excelsior; 7 grandchildren, Troy (Jenny) Jones, Joel (Julie) Jones, Tammy (Jason) Borchardt, Nick (Chasity) Jones, Heather (Scott) Hornaman, Ryan Brenke and Shawna (Virgil Jr.) Rannow; 2 step-grandchildren, Kimberly and Kevin Johnson; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Reinhardt of Henderson.He was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Art, Walter, Victor, Joe and Howard Brenke; and 2 sisters, Irene Steinborn and Mildred Anderley and a step-grandson, Richard L. Tupy, Jr.Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 6, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Henderson. Rev. Brigit Stevens will officiate. Interment, with military honors by the Le Sueur Honor Guard, will be in the Mound Cemetery, Le Sueur.Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5 at the Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur and one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
