Oliver Newton Eskridge is the son of Hamilton Eskridge and Mary Irvine. He married Martha Susanna Harrell on January 10, 1855 in Cleveland County, North Carolina, and they had at least nine children. They moved to Texas sometime after 1870. She died in 1883 and he married again to Dorphus Foster in about 1884 in Clay County, Texas. They had no children. He fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War; appearing in the records for the 55th NC Infantry Regiment, and the 1st NC Cavalry Regiment. He has three siblings.
