"Drowned at the mouth of Sixteen Mile Creek on Lake Ontario. Dates and information taken from his tombstone in a small cemetery in the village of Ransomville... My Grandmother, Laura Durand Baker..moved to Ransomville. This little cemetery, where her father lay buried was overgrown with weeds. My Grandmother canvassed the village and this small plot scared to the dead was cleaned and put in order... I found that my Great Grandfather's stone had broken in two. I recalled how hard my Grandmother had worked to recliam that spot, so with the help of my brothers and sisters a simple low marker replaced the broken one and an exact replica of the inscription was placed on it." Anna Hayward Merritt, Vol 11 page 80.
