Betty Jane Elam, 79, of West Frankfort passed away on November 9, 2009 at her residence. She was born on December 29, 1929 in West Frankfort to Albert and Minnie (Fisher) Larkin. She married Arlie Elam on April 11, 1952. She is survived by two sons, Raymond Clifford Elam of Pahrump, Nevada and Arlie Alan Elam of Fort Wayne, Indiana; daughter, Carrie Jo Smith of Herrin; two sisters, Viola Renz and Helen Darnell, both of West Frankfort; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband on December 5, 1995; her parents; brothers, James Larkin, Lee Roy Larkin, Carl Raymond "Nub" Larkin, and Jesse Ray Larkin; sister, Ruth Pearl; two infant brothers; and two infant sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Union Funeral Home. Interment will be in Tower Heights Cemetery.
