Elizabeth Snipes departed this life October 1, 2009 at Doctor's Community Hospital Lanham, Maryland at 2:00 p.m. Seventy eight years ago, on Christmas Eve, in the border town of Harlingen, Texas a missionary was born. While quite young, the family moved to Austin and like all other children of color, attended the prestigious East Side schools.
Her favorite organization has always been the E.B. Scott Missionary Society. Having served under E. B. Scott herself. She knew what she was doing and loved it. "If the fields are white, they are ready for harvest—so if they needed workers, she was there."
She worked with Neighborhood Watch, the Police Commanders Committee, Conley Guerrero Center and Care Callers. She loved East Austin, and she worked as long as there was a breath in her body to make it a safe and clean place for all citizens to live.
For over 60 years she assisted in giving quality care to a few good families who needed her service—from prominent judges to other notables in the political world. On many occasions she worked beside Secret Service Agents. They were doing their job protecting, and she did hers making sure strict protocol was followed in the serving of elegant dinners, lunches, etc.
The happiest times of her life was spending quality time with her daughter/son-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had moved to Bowie, Maryland in October 2006 to be closer to her family. She loved to travel and often did so with her daughter. They often spent time at her daughter's summer home in West Palm Beach, Florida where she enjoyed relaxing by the swimming pool and looking out onto the beautiful lake as the birds would keep her entertained for hours. She and her daughter traveled to many parts of Florida, Carribbean and Mexico. She also enjoyed cruising and had plans to cruise again for her upcoming birthday, but her untimely death has prevented her from making this trip, however, God has prepared her for a trip of his own.
She leaves to mourn, her daughter Wilma Snipes-Persaud; son-in-law Kris Persaud; granddaughters Monika Persaud-Hill, Maya Persaud Sverzut and Indira Persaud. Her grandsons; Omar and Ken. Her great-grandchildren; Dasha, Ahmad, Sarra, Tarriq and Kevin.
