Edmond Demasters was born in Nelson Co., VA the son of John and Mary (sometimes recorded as Martha) Coffey Demasters. The 1860 U.S. Census for Nelson County listed Edmond as thirty years of age.

He enlisted as a Private on 3 September 1861 at the age of 31 in the Lamkin's Battery of the Nelson Artillery, as did his brothers, Peter and Jesse.

He received a disability discharge from Lamkin's Battery of the Nelson Artillery on 9 Jul 1862. [It has also been reported that he served to the end of the war].

He married Susan Philips, daughter of John Philips and Polly Snead, July 21, 1865 (Augusta Co., VA Marriage License).

1900 Federal census for Massie's Mill states that Edmond's birth date is August 1826.
