Luella was the daughter of James & Isabel Fortune Ayres. She married John Hardin Burgess on April 4, 1878 in Macon county, Illinois.

OREANA-Mrs.Luella Burgess, 71,died of pneumonia at 2:15 pm Monday in her home here after an illness of 10 days. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday in the Christian church with Rev. J.A. Barnett of Dixon officiating. Burial will be in Union cemetery south of Oreana.
Louella Ayers was born June 11,1861 near Mechanicsburg and came to Whitmore township when a small child. She was married to John H.Burgess April 3,1878. The 54th wedding anniversary of the couple was celebrated at a special service held April 3 in the Oreana Christian church.
Mrs.Burgess leaves her husband, one son,Owen of Sigel, one daughter,Mrs.Grace Turner of Oreana,one brother W.F.Ayres of Litchfield,four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Two sisters,Mrs.Wallace Rambo and Mrs.Allie Williams preceded her in death.
