Composer, Music Pedagogue. Simon Sechter was appreciated by his contemporaries as a fugue improvisor and teacher of counterpoint. He composed mainly church music (masses and graduals), but also variations for string quartets and piano. Professor of harmony and composition at the Vienna Conservatory. After 1825 he was the first court organist. He was a teacher of music theory to Franz Schubert and Anton Bruckner.
