She was a longtime resident of the Washington, D.C. area, and was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Edward O. Welles, on October 11, 2006. He was born Oct. 3, 1921.
Mrs. Welles was a 1942 graduate of the Madeira School in McLean, VA, where she later served on its Board of Trustees. She was also a 1946 graduate of Smith College in Northampton, MA, and longtime member of the St. John Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C.
Survivors are three children, Parmelee Welles Tolkan & Edward Welles Jr., both of New York, and Jonathan Welles of California; two grandson, and a sister.
