The daughter of my ancestors, WILLIAM & SARAH (BROOKS) LORD, she married Lieut. James Bates in East Haddam. She died c. 1718 as he remarried to Mary [Tillotson] Borden, widow of John Borden of Lyme, CT about 1718. This is proven by land records and probate records.
According to FAG contributor,Jonathan Twiss, there is a fieldstone marked "M B 1718" in the Bates plot in the Old Cove Burying Ground which I believe to be that of Mary [Lord] Bates. The 2nd wife Mary [Tillotson] [Borden] Bates was alive in 1732 when she was named as the wife of Lt. James Bates.
