Born October 13, 1913 in Derby, Kansas, he was the son of William and Beryle (Mitchell) Little. He spent some of his young childhood in Oklahoma and later returned to Derby, where he graduated from Derby High School in 1932.
Elwyn was united in marriage to Mildred F. Valentine on December 24, 1950 in Douglass, Kansas. The couple made their home in Douglass where they farmed until 1959. They moved to Atlanta, Kansas until 1984 when they returned to Douglass. Elwyn bought a school bus and was the first school bus driver for the Douglass school district. He also worked at Boeing, and was a custodian for the Atlanta High School. He worked for the Butler County and Cowley County Extension Services, where he was a Dairy tester. After retirement, Mr. Little went back to work for the Douglass school district where he drove a school bus and later worked in the maintenance and lawn department. Mrs. Little preceded him in death on May 10, 2005.
He was a member of the Douglass United Methodist Church and was a founder of the Douglass Senior Citizens' Center and served as president for many years. He enjoyed refinishing furniture and especially enjoyed his family. Elwyn loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
His family includes: His sons: Blake Little and wife Janet of Douglass; and Brian Little and wife, Royann of Douglass; His brothers: Elwood Little of Wichita; Duane Little of Douglass; and Bob Little of Augusta; His sisters: Trudi Garvey of Emporia; Margret Polk of Emporia; Virginia Lamb of Oregon; and Joyce Riggs of California; His grandchildren: Jerry Little and wife, Jordan; Ryan Little, US Navy, and wife Melinda; Andrew Little, US Marine Corp.; Katie Little; and Travis Little. His great-grandchildren: Shelby, Kooper, Sirius, and Marley. In addition to his wife and parents, Elwyn was preceded in death in by his brothers, Earnest and Jim, and his sister, Martha.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday morning, December 1, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the Douglass United Methodist Church in Douglass. Interment will follow at Douglass Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service in Winfield is in charge of arrangements.
A Memorial has been established in Mr. Little's name for the Douglass Senior Citizens' Center. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
