Maurine Christensen Alley passed away peacefully at home September 1, 2002. She was born June 6, 1913, in a log cabin on the side of Oxford Peak in Downey, ID. She was the daughter of Mary and David Christensen. She was a devoted wife and mother of four children.

She graduated as valedictorian of her class at Downey High school. She went on to the "A.C." (Utah State University) where she graduated with high honors in math and English. She belonged to the PHI KAPPA PHI honor fraternity.

After college, she taught high school for a year in Duschene, UT. She later moved to Bancroft, ID to teach high school. There she met her future husband, Stephen L. Alley. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple Aug 16, 1939. Later, as Stephen worked on his Master's degree, she worked as contract administrator at Hill Air Force Base. While her husband worked on his doctorate she taught school at Bountiful High.

Teaching was one of her great loves and she especially liked working with teenagers who were struggling for any reason. For many years they lived in Provo, where her husband taught at BYU and filled the position of Dean of the College of Education. When her husband accepted a job with the U.S. government working at Heili Sellasse University in Ethiopia, she worked for the United Nations in the Department of Malaria Control.

Maurine had a great delight in life itself, a brilliant mind, never-ending strength, energy, generosity, determination, and most of all love and compassion for others. She had a joyful laugh and could match witticisms with the wittiest. She was an avid genealogist and was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; she held many different jobs including Relief Society president.

Her husband preceded her in death five years ago. She is survived by her four children, Kathryn (Mical) Smith, OR, Stephen W. (Marcie) Alley, Bountiful, Carol (Wayne) Welsh, Center-ville, Lynn D. (Heidi) Alley, Bountiful; 22 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be Thurs. Sept 5, 2002, 11 a.m., Bountiful 43rd Ward Chapel, 990 N. 100 W, Bountiful. Friends may call at Russon Brother's Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful 6-8 p.m. Wed. and at the church Thurs. 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment, Bountiful Cemetery.
