Andrew "Jack" Sollars Jr., 83, St. Joseph, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 28, 2009, at his home.
Jack was born on July 16, 1926, in St. Joseph to Andrew and Mary (Ryan) Sollars Sr. He was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph.
Jack served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post #1000, Jefferson City, Mo.
Jack was employed with the St. Joseph Fire Department for 38 years, retiring in 1986 as Captain.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Norman J. Sollars; and one sister, Larua Lee Steer.
He married Veda Ann Adams on August 24, 1979, in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include his daughter, Virginia L. Struewe, Independence, Mo.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces.
Mr. Sollars has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. There will be no visitation or services held. Entombment will be held at a later date at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery Mausoleum.
