John Sherman served several short enlistments from Scituate, in Rhode Island. In 1779 he removed to Pownal, Vermont where he volunteered in Capt. Joseph Briggs' company, Ethan Allen in command. In 1832 he applied for a pension in Bennington Co., Vt., and it was allowed for nine months actual service as private.
