Houghland and Matilda Tanner. It's difficult to speculate that they were her parents because they were married several years later (1857). In 1851, Jesse then a lad 14-15 years old and so was Matilda.
I now think that we are nearing a stage where we can reconstruct the family of James Hougland & Melinda Electa Johnson with some reasonable certainty.
