Filberto had enlisted in the US Navy Reserves in 11 October 1965 and was stationed in San Diego, when he relisted 3 March 1967 to go into active duty.
Arriving in Vietnam, Filberto was assigned to H & S Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division and reassigned as a Corpsman to Mike Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment. The Marines he was with were returning from a nigh ambush in the morning, when the Marines were ambushed by Viet Cong hostile forces in the vicinity of hamlet Ha Nha Dai Loc and 10 kilometers northwest of the An Hoa Airfield. Filberto and another Marine died as a result of gunshot wounds to the body from hostile rifle fire.

Survived by his parents, Filberto and Linda Ruth Aguirre Sr and his 6 siblings; Steve, Edmont, Robert, Jon, Julie and Stephanie Aguirre, all of 1507 West Speedway, Tucson, Arizona.
