Alois Meyer, 85, a former Sheboygan resident, passed away Saturday evening at Milwaukee following a lingering illness. Mr. Meyer moved to Milwaukee two years ago after residing at 1742 N. 8th St., Sheboygan.
He was born in the town of Meeme, Manitowoc county, on December 6, 1869, the son of the late John and Frances Meyer. On June 19, 1899, he was married in Kiel to Emma Pfeifer. the couple operated a farm in Manitowoc county for many years prior to their retirement about 20 years ago.
They moved to Sheboygan following their retirement and celebrated their golden anniversary here in 1949. He was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, John of Milwaukee; Isadore of Newton; and Ray of Sheboygan; six daughters; Mrs. A. (Loretta) Kautzer of St. Nazianz; Mrs. R. (Rose) Prahl of Cleveland; Mrs. Ella Blessener of Milwaukee; Mrs. J. B. (Betty) Baumhardt of Evanston, Ill.; Mrs. John (Clementine) Nigorski and Mrs. William (Bernice) Callahan of West Allis.
He is also survived by 23 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carl of Kiel; and Peter, Bruno, Sask., Canada; and two sisters, Mrs. Kate Derler of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Elizabeth Habersetzer of Frances, Wash.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at the Gerends Funeral Home and at Holy Name Catholic Church. The Rev. H. C. Petronis will be celebrant of the requiem high mass and burial will be made in Calvary cemetery.
