L. A. Vandruff, more familiarly known as "Lem" passed away early Monday morning at the home of his son, Oscar, at Elwood, with whom he and Mrs. Vandruff had spent the past few years. While he had not enjoyed rugged good health of late years, he was able to be around and greeted friends at the Memorial Day services in Arapahoe this year.

Lemuel Andrew Vandruff was born in Rock Island, Illinois, on March 16, 1852, a son of the late Jacob A. and Louisa Eberhart Vandruff, and departed this life at Elwood, Nebraska, on June 17, 1940, at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 1 day.

On June 11, 1882, he was united in marriage to Lucretia E. Chambers, who survives him, they having just passed their 58th wedding anniversary. Nearly 50 years of this time was spent on the original homestead.

To this union eight children were born, four preceding him in death, two daughters, May L. and Estella G., and one son, Leonard A., in early childhood, and another son, Clyde E. in July, 1935.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and four sons, Clarence P. and Charles A. of Holbrook, Oscar L. of Elwood, Bryce L. of Broadwater, and 12 grandchildren. Also two brothers, Samuel O. Vandruff of Arapahoe, Jacob Arthur "AtT" Vandruff of Alberta, Canada, and five sisters, Mrs. James (Ella) Wynes of Rock Island, Illinois, Mrs. Leven (Anna) Barr of Enid, Oklahoma, Mrs. P. S. (Martha) Merle of Martines, California, Mrs. Walter (Elizabeth) Staley and Miss Estella Vandruff of Grand Junction, Colorado, many other relatives and a host of friends.
