Shirley died of ovarian cancer, while surrounded by her loving family, in her home.
She was a graduate of Concord High School in 1950. She worked briefly at J & R's and the Pittsfield Weaving Company, but most of her life was as a stay-at-home mom, grandmother and great grandmother. She devoted her whole life to her family.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Clayton O. Bedell, in 1968; and members of her family include her husband, William "Bill" Chagnon, with whom she would have celebrated her 38th anniversary on Aug. 8; seven children, Adora Stock of Pittsfield, Ellen Graham of Pittsfield, Clayton Bedell of Penacook, Deborah "Debbie" Hussey of Brentwood, Gary "Buddy" Bedell of Barnstead, Virginia "Ginny" Bedell of Chichester and Allan Bedell of Strafford; six stepchildren, Gary O. Bedell, Judith "Judy" Mitchell, Thomas Chagnon, Susan Chagnon, William Chagnon and Christina Chagnon; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Arline Lamper of Meredith and Christine Mobbs of Chichester; and a close cousin, Madeline Sanborn of Chichester.
She was also predeceased by a grandson, Nicolas Coburn; and a stepdaughter, Sandra Stanley.
