John Oliver Baugh’s parents, Lee and Willie Baugh, arrived in Coleman County, Texas from Lavaca County, Texas in 1892. John was born the following year on 21 Mar 1893 at Trickham. He had 3 older siblings, Edgar, Tennie and Lela. In the following years, another five children were added to the family, Dixie Viola, Pauline, Annie, Nolan, Lora, Ruth, Dick and Eula. John attended Cleveland school and married Alice Alma Williams in Santa Anna on March 21, 1914.

The couple had nine children: Howard Baugh (b. 17 Dec 1914; d. 31 Dec 1919), John Norman Baugh (b. 10 Nov 1916; d. 21 Feb 1959), Dixie Irene Baugh Richey (b. 23 Sep 1919; d. 06 Dec 1998), Bessie Lorrayne Baugh Smart (b. 12 Sep 1921; d. 23 Jul 1964), Wilma Lucille Baugh Smith (b. 18 Jul 1924; d. 29 Mar 1994), Joyce Mareta Baugh Devoll (b. 28 May 1927; d. 20 Jan 1987), Infant (b. & d. 04 Mar 1923), Raymond Lee Baugh (b. 30 Nov 1929; d. 29 Apr 2008), Chester Elroy Baugh (b. 06 May 1940; d. 21 Mar 1999).

The Baugh’s lived in Snyder, Texas for a while and it was there that Alice passed away on 08 Feb 1960. John retired from stock farming in 1976 but he was a very active 83 year-old. He still worked at times as a tractor driver and would ride horseback around the farm.

John passed away 22 Sep 1979 in the Brownwood Community Hospital, Brownwood, Texas after a short illness. His funeral services were held at the Cleveland Methodist Church on Monday, 24 September 1979 with Rev. Howell Martin and Rev. James Ford officiating. He was laid to rest beside his wife of 46 years in the Cleveland Cemetery.

Survivors: Daughters, Mrs. Irene (Robert) Richey of Farmington, New Mexico; Mrs. Wilma Smith of Snyder, Texas and Mrs. Joyce (Joe) Devoll of Lovington, New Mexico; sons, Raymond Lee (Zula Mae ) Baugh of Weatherford, Texas and Elroy Baugh of Phoenix, Arizona.
