Joseph and Catherine Burson Griffith lived and owned property in each of the following locations: Blathanackambury, Gunpowder Falls, Baltimore Co. MD 1796-1799; [Brooke Co. VA (WV) 1800-1809]; Belmont, Co. OH 1808-1824; Knox Co., OH 1823-1829; and Muskingum Co., OH 1829-1845.
Although Joseph and Catherine were Quakers, they married outside the faith in 1786: Records show that on July 9, 1786 the Gunpowder Meeting condemned "Joseph Griffith and Catharine (before marriage Burson) for marrying outside
the good order." Cited in Henry C. Peden, Jr., Quaker Records of Northern Maryland, 1716-1800 (Westminster, MD: Willow Bend Books, 2001)
They had at least 5 sons: Benjamin (1788-1850); Mahlon(1792-1848); Isaac (1791/2- 1845); Joseph Jr (1796-1879); and James (1801-1884)
