Charles Douglas Barnes, age 91, died Friday, March 30, 1990 in a South Ogden Care Center.


He was born January 28, 1899 in Salt Lake City, the son of Arthur Franklin and Elizabeth Sansom Barnes.


He married Luella Strong on June 6, 1923 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mr. Barnes lived in Long Beach, California from 1928-1964. Retired teacher from Long Beach City College. Served as President of Auckland, New Zealand Mission. Lived in Bountiful since returning from New Zealand Mission. Was active in the LDS Church, serving in many capacities, recently serving as a Sealer in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.


Survivors include: children, Helen B. McEldowney, Norwalk, California; Phyllis B. Booth, Chicago, Illinois; Dean A. Barnes, Ogden, Utah; Nancy B. Brindley, Alta Loma, California. Also surviving are seventeen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren, a brother, Ralph A. Barnes. Preceded in death by his wife, Luella, and two grandsons.


Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 1990 at 2:00 p.m. in the Bountiful Twenty-First Ward Chapel, 50 South 200 East. Friends may call Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, on Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and at the Church on Tuesday one hour prior to the services.
Interment: Salt Lake City Cemetery.
