Obituary:
Thomas H. Fischer died October 7, 2006 after giving up a valiant fight with cancer. Thomas H. Fischer was born on April 23, 1942 to Kermit and Jean (Peterson) Fischer in Saginaw, Michigan. The Fischer family moved to Spring Lake in 1945. Tom graduated from Grand Haven Senior High School in 1960 and also from Aquinas College in 1983. He ran Lakeside Auto Inc. from 1967 until 2005. He had also worked as a part-time policeman for the city of Grand Haven and as a full-time policeman for three years for the Village of Spring Lake. He was a member of Spring Lake Presbyterian Church. Tom had an avid interest in Spring Lake and its well-being. He was a Spring Lake Village councilman for the past 20 years until his illness forced his retirement. He enjoyed researching the history of the village and shared his knowledge with his fellow council members. He also enjoyed collecting post cards of the Tri-Cities area, but focused on Spring Lake Village. He would share his pictures by showing them at the area Senior Centers. Tom was also a member of the North Ottawa Amateur Radio Club. Tom is survived by his brother, David (Julia) Fischer of Spring Lake; a nephew, John (Linda) Fischer of Grand Haven; a niece, Lynne (Gary) James of Grand Rapids; and a great niece, Caitlyn James, and great nephew, Austin James, also of Grand Rapids. A memorial service for Mr. Fischer will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 15, 2006 at Spring Lake Presbyterian Church with Rev. Daniel Anderson officiating.
