Paul Laffey, age 89, died March 18, 2009 at his home near Eldon, Missouri. He was born on June 8, 1919 in West Point, Illinois to the late Timothy and Nellie (Clampitt) Laffey. On April 12, 1947 he was married in Naperville, Illinois to Blanche (Feldott) Laffey who survives of the home. Also surviving,

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, John Laffey, and sisters, Donna, Irene, & Josephine.

He graduated from the University of Illinois. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, where he was a bomber pilot. After his service to his country, he worked for the Illinois Farm Bureau, and Country Life Insurance Companies of Illinois. He became the first employee of Farm Family Insurance Companies where he was the General Manager & CEO for eighteen years. He moved to Eldon in 1971 where he owned a cow & calf operation for nineteen years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Eldon, where he was instrumental in the building of the Catholic Center, and the Rectory expansion of the church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for sixty-nine years. He was one of the original directors in the building of the Eldon Nursing Home, and the Eldon Community Center. He was the leader in adding the second nine holes to the Eldon Country Club. He was also very proud of his six holes in ones. He helped to establish the Gateway Industry of Eldon and he was a member of the VFW Post #2442 of Eldon.

Visitation will be held on Friday March 20, 2009 at Phillips Funeral Home Eldon, MO from 5:00-8:00PM, with a Rosary prayed at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday March 21, 2009 at Sacred Heart Church Eldon, MO at 11:00 AM, with Fr. Fred Elskamp officiating. Interment will follow the Funeral Mass at the Eldon City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials for Paul are suggested to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the American Heart Association.
